The upright style scanner allows you to see that patient as they are naturally with all the weight being held in the normal places that it would be while walking or sitting. This creates muscle tensions that can signal where a problem lies.
With traditional tunnel MRI scanners, the weight is distributed differently, and the muscles will be more relaxed, making it much more difficult to diagnose an issue.
Upright MRI scanners are known to make it easier to diagnose CCJ (cranio-cervical joint instability). This is when the ligaments in the neck become stretched and flexible due to injury or a previous illness. It can make the patient uncomfortable, can be painful and make it difficult to move the head and neck. It also makes the head feel heavier, causing more strain if it’s not handled quickly, making the issue gradually worse over time.
